While other Oregon wineries can barely get a few hundred cases
of outstanding wine into a bottle, it's amazing how much outstanding
wine Drouhin gets from its Dundee Hills vineyard, making it
one of Oregon 's most widely available really good reds. The
2000 has a sense of elegance on a sturdy frame, with pretty
cherry and candied fruit flavors playing out against fine-grain
texture, persisting nicely on the open finish. Drink now through
2008.

($60) Dark red. Suave, finely etched bouquet of wild strawberry,
fresh raspberry, rose and pungent magnolia, with hints of cocoa
powder, cola and orange zest. A silky, poised midweight with
deep, youthful, mineral-tinged raspberry and cherry-cola flavors
that grow sweeter with aeration. Finishes supple, vibrant and
long, picking up notes of cinnamon and candied rose. A beautifully
understated pinot that could be from a swanky Vosne vineyard.

Deep red. Rich and smoky on the nose, with powerful aromas of
cherry and chocolate, along with a hint of espresso. Big, rich
and round, with a ripe cherry flavor. Quite dense, and displaying
more power today than the Louise. Finishes solid but with a
velvety, smooth texture. 90 points

"Medium
to dark ruby-colored, the 2000 Pinot Noir Laurène is
medium to full-bodied, soft, and plush. A structured wine, it
offers grilled oak, spices, black cherries and red fruits in
its elegant, well-delineated character. It has outstanding depth,
concentration, and length. Projected maturity: now-2008.

DDO’s Chardonnay comes as close to white
Burgundy as you will find in Oregon. Amazing finesse, with crisp,
detailed aromas mixing flowers, peaches, melon and almonds.
Impressive texture and a long, elegant and precisely-detailed
path across the palate. — P.G. (5/1/2006)

"The
medium to dark ruby-colored 2000 Pinot Noir Louise explodes
from the glass with boisterous plummy fruit. Armed with gorgeous
depth, it coats the palate with lush, oily-textured fruit. Thick,
medium to full-bodied, and sweet, it's crammed with over-ripe
black cherries, candied blackberries, and currants whose flavors
persist throughout its long, supple finish."

A gorgeous wine, one of the finest I've tasted from Oregon ,
the medium to dark ruby-colored wine bursts from the glass with
super-ripe red fruits and spices. Sadly, only 3 barrels of this
superb, powerful, refined gem were produced. Concentrated, lush,
and dense, it is a big, thick, juicy offering loaded with magnificently
ripened red cherries whose flavors linger for more than 30 seconds
on the finish. Bravo! Anticipated maturity now-2010.

This is the best Pinot Noir yet from the Drouhin estate; immensely
concentrated and rich. The fruit is complex and penetrating,
focused and long, layered throughout a generous and extended
finish. Cherries and chocolate linger on the palate, resonating
long after the wine has been swallowed.
