Our Chardonnay Arthur is produced from 100% Dijon clone Chardonnay, grown
on the Drouhin Family Estate in the Dundee Hills of Oregon. First planted
in 1992, these are among the oldest such vines in the new world and their
low yields and early ripening ability have been a perfect match for our
climate and soils.
Our Chardonnay debuted with the 1996 vintage. With the 2002 release, it
was renamed in honor of Véronique Drouhin-Boss' son, Arthur. Arthur
is a wine that captures the bright, crisp acidity and mineral character
of the vineyard, balanced with richness and lovely length on the palate.
Winemaking:
Ripe, healthy fruit was hand-picked into small totes, and then whole-cluster
pressed. Half of the juice was fermented in French Oak barrels (10% new)
to create a round, rich texture. The other half was fermented and aged
in stainless steel to maintain the purest and most elegant expression
of Chardonnay. After eight months, these two styles were blended to create
a cuvée of a more delicate nature - to Véronique, it is
as if one brought together elements of a pure Chablis and a gentle Meursault.
Véronique¹s Tasting Notes:
"I love Arthur's combination of freshness and natural acidity, it's
roundness and texture. Balanced and complex, the 2006 features carnation
and magnolia on the nose, with hints of toast and lemon zest. With time,
the bouquet reveals lemon verbena, cantaloupe and more white flowers.
On the palate, Arthur is clean and fresh, with a long finish, especially
when paired with shellfish and ripe cheese. Enjoy it now, or over the
next 3-5 years."

Named for winemaker Véronique Drouhin’s son, our Chardonnay
Arthur is produced entirely from estate fruit. Lots are fermented separately
in both stainless steel and barrel before being blended to a wine with
refreshing purity of fruit, crisp minerality and vibrant acidity.
2005 Vintage: An exceptionally dry Winter gave way to a wet and often
cold Spring. Summer conditions were excellent, however, which raised expectations
for a more classic Oregon vintage, despite smaller potential yields. At
harvest, irregular ripening patterns and the threat of rain demanded precise
knowledge of one’s vineyards. Those who were patient and thoughtful
were well rewarded.
Véronique’s Tasting Note: The 2005 Arthur has everything
I loved about the 2004 Arthur, but the vintage’s extra acidity adds
an exciting lift. The bouquet of fresh almonds, peaches and white flowers
(such as Acacia) is again present, as is the round, lovely texture and
lingering finish. Wonderful early, this is a wine that will certainly
improve over the next 5-7 years. – Véronique Drouhin-Boss

The DDO Chardonnay Arthur is produced from
100% Dijon clone vines grown on the Drouhin Family Estate in Oregon's
Dundee Hills. These are among the oldest Dijon clone Chardonnay vines
in the New World , planted in 1990. These low-yielding, early-ripening
clones have proved a perfect match for the climate and soils of the Willamette
Valley .
First produced in the 1996 vintage, the DDO Chardonnay is a wine that
captures the bright, crisp acidity and liquid mineral flavors from the
vineyard, balanced with richness and lovely length on the palate. Arthur
is produced in limited quantities, never more than 2,000 cases. A beautiful
expression of the noble Chardonnay grape, we recommend it with shellfish,
seafood of all types, and a wide array of cheeses.
Véronique's Tasting Notes - 2003 is a vintage
that every winemaker welcomes: wonderful growing conditions,
lots of sunshine, and in the end, sweet, perfectly ripe fruit. Our
2003 Chardonnay Arthur has the beautiful, brilliant color of golden hay,
with compelling freshness and minerality, and a long finish. As
the wine unfolds in your glass, enjoy the aromas of magnolia, coriander,
hazelnut, and acacia tree honey. Drink now and anytime over
the next few years.

Effective with the release of the 2002 vintage, the Domaine Drouhin Oregon
Chardonnay will carry the name "Arthur" (pronounced "ar-tour.")
The wine is named after winemaker Véronique Drouhin's son Arthur,
who was born in France in 1994. Véronique has previously named
two of her Pinot Noir bottlings for daughters Laurène and Louise.
" Arthur was getting old enough to realize his sisters had wines
named after them," said Véronique and he was starting to wonder,
"hey, mama - where is the wine named for me?" And so, voila!

Véronique's Tasting Notes:
' 2002 was a vintage of sunshine and a magical summer that lingered through
the end of October. The wine has a lovely golden hue. It combines on the
nose a complex bouquet of peach, honey, acacia and vanilla. The rich,
smooth, elegant palate also has nice acidity and a beautiful long finish.
To drink and enjoy now, and over the next three years."1,850
